Duties/Responsibilities

Design, implement, support and analyze monitoring plans/ programs which proactively ensure that Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) wastewater treatment plants, receiving waters and discharges (industrial and NBC) are within permit parameters. Review monitoring data, establish complex data spreadsheets, enter data into computer databases and prepare data analysis and summary reports. Assist with keeping up-to-date with regulations, equipment, procedures, industry trends, general literature and issues involving: wastewater treatment, environmental quality/planning water quality, Narragansett Bay, urban rivers, etc. Design and assist to implement monitoring, environmental and strategic programs and plans. Performs other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities.

Education-Experience

Graduation from a 4-year technical college degree program (biology, microbiology, chemistry, environmental science civil/environmental/chemical engineering, etc.) or equivalent. Masters Degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience performing professional level environmental science and/or engineering duties involving data analysis, data presentation and water quality issues required. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires a thorough knowledge of scientific methods as they apply to the monitoring of rivers, bays, sewage collection systems, industrial users, wastewater treatment plants and receiving water quality issues. Working knowledge of current federal, state and local regulatory requirements as applied to assigned NBC projects and operations. Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, GIS, Sigmaplot, Access and Power Point software programs. Special Requirements: At the time of hire, must possess and maintain as a condition of employment a valid driver’s license. Boating knowledge and experience is a plus.
