Duties/Responsibilities

Supervises the day-to-day activities of assigned Microbiology Laboratory personnel involved in testing and analyzing samples obtained from NBC wastewater treatment plants, receiving waters, collections systems and industrial facilities. May be required to personally perform Bioassay testing, microscopic examinations of wastewater, phytoplankton analysis and other microbiological laboratory tests and related duties as may be necessary to ensure analyses are completed. Troubleshoots lab equipment including all types of wet chemistry analyzers, microscope systems, IDEXX sealers, media dispensers, and autoclaves. Presents data and findings at internal and external meetings. Validates daily wet chemistry, biological, and microbiological data generated by Laboratory staff. Performs data validation in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring LIMS is functioning properly on testing equipment in assigned Lab areas and ensure proper functioning of LIMS workflows from analyzers, etc. Performs data validation in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring LIMS is functioning properly on testing equipment in assigned Lab areas and ensure proper functioning of LIMS workflows from analyzers, etc. Performs other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities

Education-Experience

Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry or equivalent minimally required; Master’s degree preferred. Experience/Job Knowledge: Extensive previous experience performing typical wastewater analyses, including BOD, CBOD, TSS, Chlorides, Fecal Coliform, Enterococci, SV60/ SV20, Oil and Grease analysis, Hex Chrome, Total Phosphorous, Nitrite, etc. and at least five years experience performing microbiological analysis, with proficiency in microscopic analysis and bioassay protocols.
