Duties/Responsibilities

Manages, directs and coordinates all corrective and preventative maintenance tasks at the NBC’s Field’s Point WWTF and associated remote pumping stations. The responsibilities include all mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment, structures and fleet vehicles. The incumbent ensures the safe and proper uninterrupted operation of the facility by preventing equipment and other mechanical breakdowns that would cause a major environmental problem for the State of Rhode Island and incur fines or extra expense for the NBC. For this position, it is necessary that the incumbent keep current on technological improvements to treatment processes and equipment and is familiar with environmental issues. Continuously plans, creates schedules, and delegates maintenance work responsibilities to subordinates to ensure the facilities and equipment run efficiently and in compliance with NBC guidelines and other statutory regulations.

Education-Experience

High school diploma or GED required. College coursework in engineering, any of the various technical trades and/or management preferred. Completion of specialized wastewater training courses is desirable. A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in the maintenance of an advanced or secondary activated sludge wastewater treatment facility is required. Special Requirements: Must possess a Grade II certification license for wastewater treatment operators. Must possess a valid Rhode Island driver’s license. This position requires a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the technical and professional disciplines of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance including principles, practices, methods, processes, tools and equipment. Must have a thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment, mechanical pneumatics, hydraulics, safety and building codes. The position requires problem-solving and organizational skills; frequent use of judgment and a high degree of integrity.
