Duties/Responsibilities

Serve as a metadata processor in support of the Environmental Monitoring team.  Responsible for  ensuring applicable Environmental Monitoring information gets into the LIMS properly for various reporting and analysis needs.  Implement, support and analyze monitoring plans/programs which proactively ensure that the Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) wastewater treatment plants, receiving waters and discharges are within permit parameters.  Create LIMS workflows to ensure that all Environmental Monitoring sampling metadata can be entered into the LIMS system.  Work with the department manager and other department personnel to ensure NBC input and output data are accurate and output reports are properly formatted for in accordance with the needs of end users. Access and process data files from field equipment for general use and established visualization formats. Remain current with regulations, literature, procedures, equipment and industry trends.  Support the development and implementation of water and wastewater sampling and analysis protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), monitoring plans and programs, to ensure they reflect current regulations and ensure NBC mandates are satisfied.  Performs other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities.

 

Education-Experience

Graduation from a 4-year technical college degree program (environmental science, chemistry, engineering, etc.) One to three years of experience performing professional environmental science analysis and/or statistical analysis. Advanced mathematical skills, including statistical analysis, is highly desirable. Knowledge of wastewater treatment facility operations, nutrients and their effects on receiving waters preferred. Certifications in GIS and experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) preferred. Job Knowledge, Skills, Requirements: Must be proficient in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software, MS word, Excel, GIS, and Power Point. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Special Requirements: A valid Driver’s License is required. Boating knowledge, experience and Safe Boating Certificate is a plus. NBC requires vaccination against Covid-19 as a condition of employment, as well as continuing employment.
