Duties/Responsibilities

This position is accountable to manage and coordinate the operation, construction and maintenance of the NBC sewerage collection system. The responsibilities include ensuring that only sewerage is brought to the two treatment facilities. The incumbent ensures the safe and proper uninterrupted operation of the collection system to prevent failures that would cause a major environmental problem for the State of Rhode Island and incur fines or extra expenses for the NBC. For this position, it is necessary that the incumbent keep current on technological improvements to process and equipment is familiar with environmental issues and knowledgeable of Federal and State regulations. Reviews sewerage system plans, monitors pumping station information, examines videotape sewer inspections, collaborates on permits and provides research reports. Reviews and evaluates time sheets and overtime expenses in relationship to work performance, reviews individual performance, resolves employee issues and take corrective action (warnings, suspension) when necessary. Attends staff meetings, engineering meetings, construction contract meetings and other various committee meetings. Performs other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities.

 

Education-Experience

Education: The incumbent must have a four-year degree in engineering, science or a related field. Experience: Seven to ten years experience in utility management, supervising staff, and related services. A thorough knowledge of sewerage collection systems, architect or civil engineering exposure and familiar with safety and environmental regulations. Duties of this position require a demonstrated understanding of the technical and professional disciplines of engineering principles, practices, methods, and construction management. Special Requirements: Must possess valid driver’s license in order to operate NBC vehicles.
