Duties/Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the financial accounting and analysis work involved in the timely/accurate maintenance of the NBC enterprise financial system, which requires discretion and professional judgment.  Accurate and timely transaction records of NBC activities/operations that impact financial statements/records/reporting requirements in accordance with NBC’s enterprise financial system and General Accepted Accounting Practices. Performs analysis of NBC accounts/activities to ensure the accuracy of information recorded (e.g.: travel advance and settlement requests, training expenses, etc.)  Maintains financial records and periodically analyses/reconciles, (weekly, monthly, annually, etc.) various NBC accounts/accruals and financial systems to endure an accurate accounting of financial activity.  Assists with year-end closings and provides information requested from the auditors during the fiscal audit.  Provide support on PUC rate filings, debt issuance entities and other special project.  Lead role in the process to provide appropriate information and ensure payment is sent to the State of Rhode Island and received by the due date to comply with the State of Rhode Island Unclaimed Property Law.  This process includes a manual online reporting and payment component on the State of Rhode Island website.  Performs other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities.

Education-Experience

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree and at least two to five years of accounting experience. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position requires a thorough knowledge of GAAP and financial practices/techniques gained through graduation from a four-year business college with a concentration in accounting. Previous/practical experience in performing advanced accounting duties in government or business is required, to include knowledge of automated general ledger systems and computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
