The Narragansett Bay Commission is regulated by the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission (PUC). Both the NBC Board of Commissioners and the PUC must authorize adjustments to sewer user rates. Sewer user rates fund all NBC’s clean water projects as well as operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment infrastructure.
Effective July 1, 2024
Residential
All residential structures up to and including six (6) dwelling units. All residential condominiums will be billed under residential tariffs regardless of the number of dwelling units.

Industrial
All structures in which water is utilized for the production and/or manufacturing based operations including non-contact cooling water. As of May 1, 2010, this category includes industrial laundries as defined by the EPA and categorized by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICCS).

Commercial
All other structures. This includes mixed use structures (i.e., combined residential/non-residential) and half-way houses and/or boarding type facilities where unrelated persons rent rooms.
