The Sewer Connection Permitting Staff assists businesses and home owners to connect their wastewater flows to the public sewer system. The mission of the Sewer Connection Permitting Staff is to assist property owners within our service district to promptly connect to the NBC sewer system. The property owners are required to apply for a sewer connection permit before they make or modify a service connection to a public sewer line. The NBC Permitting Staff ensures that the NBC collection system infrastructure is protected, and ensures that new connections are properly made to the public sewer system. The NBC Permitting Staff verifies that the sewer system has sufficient capacity available to accommodate the new flows and that the flows are of acceptable quantity and quality.

The applicant must ensure that their permit application package is complete to start the official review process. The requirements are shown on the cover page and throughout the application itself. Once the completed application package is received by the NBC, the Permitting Staff strives to issue Residential/Alteration Permits within 10 business days and Non-Residential Permits within 30 business days. This can vary depending based on the complexity of the project. The Permitting Staff can be contacted at permits@narrabay.com or 401-443-4585 for any questions.

What if I do not obtain an NBC permit?

Failure to obtain the proper NBC permit may result in the imposition of fines, construction project shutdowns or delays, connecting improperly or to the wrong location or having to excavate the sewer connection to demonstrate a proper connection was made to the public sewer system.

The NBC Permitting Staff is available to assist applicants in completing and filing permit applications during normal business hours and will make every effort to ensure that applications are complete so a permit can be issued in a timely manner.
