The Narragansett Bay Commission’s Environmental Monitoring and Data Analysis (EMDA) Section collects and analyzes over 26,000 water samples from treatment plants, industries, and our receiving waters every year. NBC’s EMDA section tracks the levels of nutrients, totals suspended solids, biochemical oxygen demand, fecal coliform and other water quality parameters throughout the NBC service area.

The Narragansett Bay Commission's Receiving Water Monitoring Program received the National Environmental Achievement Award for its excellence in Operations from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) during NACWA’s annual summer conference held in July 2010. This award is presented to member agencies for outstanding projects, systems, or methods relating to wastewater treatment operations.
