The goal of the NBC EH&S Program is to ensure a safe work environment for all employees by providing them with the knowledge and awareness necessary to remain safe throughout the course of daily job activities. This is accomplished through the following program objectives:
Training
Ensuring all NBC employees have the knowledge necessary to perform their job duties safely, effectively and efficiently, through:
- On-site classroom & field safety training
- Online safety training
- In-house First Aid, CPR/AED training
- Coordinating & organizing on-site safety training from outside industry experts
- Promoting the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices during initial and annual employee mandatory safety training events
Compliance
Fully comply with all applicable health & safety requirements, including but not limited to, OSHA, NFPA, EPA and RI DEM Regulations, through the following actions:
- Routine facility safety inspections & audits
- Regular employee training
- OSHA 300 Log Injury & Illness Recordkeeping
- EPCRA Tier II Hazardous Chemical Reporting
- RI Right-to-Know Chemical Reporting (R.I.G.L 28-21)
- Maintaining facility Emergency Preparedness Plans
- Regular review of internal written policies & programs
Awareness
- Publishing employee safety-related articles in NBC’s monthly employee newsletter, “The Pipeline”
- Working closely with staff to conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) of specific job tasks in order to identify hazards and implement control measures to reduce risk
- Holding regular Safety Committee meetings
- Assisting other NBC sections with offering non-regulatory, on-site NBC sponsored safety events such as Defensive Driving Seminars
- Coordinating health & safety efforts with outside affiliations
- Coordinating annual emergency response drills with the local fire department and local emergency management officials.
